Among our members are several who are actively involved in researching the history of Ossett. Both Ruth Nettleton and David Scriven have researched many different aspects of the town during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, sharing their knowledge through talks and articles in several publications. Alan Howe has researched the history of Sowood Farm and the Marsdens. Recently he joined Neville Ashby and Steve Wilson in researching Ossett people who served in World War One. Much of his work has been published on the Ossett.net website. Brian Smith, researched and produced a history of St Ignatius Church, while his study on Ossett pubs was published by Ossett Historical Society (now out of print).Copies of both publications were deposited with local libraries.
